Bank Profile

M.M. Warburg Bank (Switzerland) Ltd traces its history to 1880 with the foundation of stock exchange member bank Schoop, Reiff & Co, which soon established itself as a prime name among the financial institutions specializing in securities brokerage. By 1965, the firm has become Bank Gut, Streiff AG, with a focus on asset management services. In 1978, a group of Japanese and Swiss investors acquired the bank and changed its name into Interallianz Bank Zurich AG.

In September 1996, the bank was bought by M.M. Warburg & CO KGaA, renaming it M.M. Warburg Bank (Switzerland) Ltd.

M.M. Warburg Bank (Switzerland) Ltd parent company and sole shareholder, M. M. Warburg & CO KGaA, has been headquartered in Hamburg since it was established in 1798. Today, it is the second largest independent private bank in Germany. The equity capital of the bank is entirely owned by private individuals. The bank consider this preservation of independence for more than two centuries as an invaluable asset and defines the bank’s character, its way of doing business. As a universal bank, it offers a comprehensive palette of financial services and products. The Warburg group employs more than 1’200 individuals in various cities in Germany as well as in neighbouring countries.

The history of the house of M.M. Warburg & CO is inextricably linked with the developments during the past 200 years, in a sense representing a reflection of the highs and lows experienced during this period—major political shifts, two world wars, multiple currency devaluations, stock market booms and busts, macroeconomic cycles and constant competition.
